Optimizing meeting culture ‒ or: when the buzzer hums!

You all know this: one meeting follows another, there are no agendas, or if there are, they are largely being ignored. Chatterboxes go on forever, and results - if any - are not being written down, making learning almost impossible. The coated yarns are smoother and tougher, making them more resistant to mechanical strain, for example during weaving. ELVANOL™ polyvinyl alcohols (PVOH) are excellent for sizing both spun and filament yarn. They form a protective film that ensures adequate abrasion resistance.

To work in the Höchst Industrial Park one day – as a child that was what Meltem Yildirim could well imagine. "My grandpa used to be a chemist at Hoechst AG," she says. The 23-year-old business informatics student became informed about Kuraray on the Internet and has applied for a work-study program. "I was happy that it actually worked out." She has now been part of Marco Zimmermann’s OBS/Mechanical/Reliability team since the end of 2016 and feels completely at ease. "I really enjoy it. The colleagues are all nice and helpful, and it’s a great working environment."

Invisible protection

Trosifol® films are made of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) and are used, for example, as interlayers for laminated safety glass in vehicles. In the event of an accident, glass splinters stick to the film and protect the occupants from injuries. Intercultural differences or what does it mean when Japanese nod?

Despite training, not only our Japanese colleagues experience cultural differences. Also our German colleagues stationed e.g. at our European headquarter in Hattersheim (KEG) need to reflect when working with Japanese colleagues. Our colleague, Anna Fokerman, from the Clarino division, has made her experiences: "For example, I initially thought that when Japanese colleagues nodded it was because they understood me. But instead it meant they were listening!" She could then deepen this knowledge in an intercultural seminar as part of KEG's performance management…

Intercultural differences or how is it really to work with us Germans?

The Kuraray Group is a globally operating Japanese specialty chemicals company. At all sites worldwide, Japanese colleagues, so-called expats, work together with their local colleagues. The idea behind this – in addition to talent development – is the promotion of a common understanding as well as an intensive exchange of experiences. We asked some Japanese colleagues what differences they think exist between the Germans and Japanese – at work and at play…

We deliberately chose an incomplete sentence as our headline to attract interest in what we have to offer.” And Kuraray has plenty to offer!
