Industrial Fibres – reliable products for powerful applications

Commercialized by Kuraray, KURALON was the first synthetic fibre made in Japan and produced from polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) resin. KURALON are world-class niche products that have been subject to continual improvements in anticipation of changes in demand over time. Since the development of KURALON, the company has continued to refine high-performance fibres and materials that only Kuraray can make. In the process, Kuraray developed niche markets in various fields, from construction and agricultural materials to cutting-edge materials used in space exploration.

Kuraray is the market leader in PVOH fibres. KURALON is used in wide ranging applications for more than 60 years. KURALON K-II is the second generation PVOH fibre developed by Kuraray. It is available as water-soluble type and for high-strength applications as insoluble type.

Kuraray offers a wide range of melt-spun fibres made from polymers such as polyester, EVOH and specialty polyamide. Many forms and functionalities are available, including Clacarbo for static electricity elimination materials for added safety and comfort.

Vectran® is a high-performance, ultra high strength multifilament yarn spun from liquid crystal polymer (LCP). Vectran is the only commercially available melt spun LCP fibre in the world. The fibre exhibits exceptional strength and rigidity and is five times stronger than steel and ten times stronger than aluminum by weight.

Kuraray offers non-woven fabrics as KURAFLEX dry-laid technology and KURAFLEX MB melt-blown technology. The latest innovation in this area is FELIBENDY, non-woven fabrics based on the world’s first commercial steam jet facility.

Due to its high temperature resistance, polyetherimide (PEI)-based KURAKISSS™ is the ideal fiber for aircraft applications. The fiber shows unique properties such as easy dyeability, flame retardancy and low smoke density in case of fire - especially important in airplane cabins.

Kuraray offers a variety of hook and loop fasteners with different shapes. MAGICTAPE™ is the standard hook & loop fastener, whereas FREEMAGIC™ shows hooks and loops alternately piled on the same surface. Both types are flame-resistant and have been certified by the “Oeko-Tex Standard 100” for textile safety.
