LIR/LBR – For tyres that last longer

LIR/LBR high-viscosity polymer rubbers are based on isoprene and butadiene. They are colourless, transparent and almost entirely odourless. Most LIR/LBR is used in the rubber industry as a reactive plasticiser. Kuraray’s liquid rubber grades LIR/LBR have far higher molecular weight than normal plasticisers and are co-vulcanisable, thus preventing migration. Another benefit when using LIR is the far lower reduction in the mechanical properties of vulcanisates compared with plasticisers based on mineral oils. That gives tyres, for example, a far longer service life. LIR/LBR can be crosslinked with all common types of rubber. One special feature is that LIR/LBR are also produced as functionalised products, so they can be bonded to a wide variety of matrices. Above all, that improves adhesion to metals.
