Arbor Day & “Hanami"

Arbor Day & “Hanami" – viewing cherry blossoms Today is "Arbor Day" - the day of the tree, a global holiday reminding us of the beauty of nature and our responsibility for the environment.

This has a special meaning for us at Kuraray as the cherry blossom (sakura in Japanese) has been in full swing in most parts of Japan and in the milder climate zones of Europe for the past couple of weeks. There is hardly a human being not enchanted by the simple beauty of the opulently blossoming trees, especially in Japan, of course, where the blossom, which lasts only a few days, is understood as a symbol of the transience of life and is celebrated festively with picnics under the trees – “Hanami” is the name of this beautiful tradition.
