KURARAY POVAL™ LM – the secondary protective colloid for PVC

Polyvinyl alcohols (PVOH) are essential for the production of PVC. The LM grades of KURARAY POVAL™ polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) combine particularly low saponification with a low degree of hydrolysis, so they are ideal for use as a secondary protective colloid. You too can use this unique PVA to optimize the quality and efficiency of your PVC production.

High acetate content, better dispersing properties

KURARAY POVAL™ LM grades have especially low saponification and are available as with an extremely low degree of hydrolysis of between 33 and 53 mol%. This unique combination makes these PVOH polymers excellent as secondary protective colloids in suspension polymerization of PVC. A high acetate content gives these polyvinyl alcohols a low glass transition temperature, so they can be dispersed in cold water or dissolved in formulations with organic solvents.

Precise process control for improved PVC properties

PVC producers use KURARAY POVAL™ LM grades to significantly improve the quality of their products. These PVA polymers enable precise control of grain formation in polymerization to optimize structure, morphology and particle size distribution. KURARAY POVAL™ LM grades are completely free of organic solvents. Moreover, the monomers are easy to remove, so they help improve the efficiency of production processes. For use as a primarily dispersing agent, Kuraray offers PVC producers KURARAY POVAL™ L grades.

Use the advantages of KURARAY POVAL™ LM grades for your PVC applications – and benefit from the expertise of Kuraray, a world-leading PVOH producer.

Benefits

  • Improve PVC properties (high porosity, narrow particle size distribution, high bulk density, improved grain size)
  • Improve production efficiency (monomer is easy to remove, low production waste)
  • Organic solvent-free

  • Secondary protective colloid in suspension polymerization of PVC

  • Low degree of hydrolysis (33-35 mol%)
  • Low glass transition temperature: Due to their high acetate content, they have a low glass transition temperature in water.
  • LM polymers can be dispersed in cold water and are soluble in blends containing organic solvents.
