Kuraray was founded in 1926. Its name is derived from Kurashiki, the Japanese city where it was established, and rayon fibre, which was the first product it manufactured.

    

1965 First branch of Kuraray Co., Ltd. in Hamburg
1968 Branch relocated to Düsseldorf, Germany
1991 Establishment of Kuraray Europe GmbH in Düsseldorf
1995 Establishment of Kuraray EVAL Europe GmbH in Düsseldorf
1997 Establishment of EVAL Europe N.V. based in Antwerp
1999 Start of production at EVAL in Antwerp
2001 Acquisition of the PVA/PVB activities of Clariant in Frankfurt
Establishment of Kuraray Specialities Europe GmbH
2004 Acquisition of the TROSIFOL business in Troisdorf and Nizhny Novgorod (Russia) from HT Troplast AG
2005 Start-up of the 5th production line for PVA in Frankfurt
2006 Relocation of Kuraray Europe GmbH to Frankfurt
Integration of Kuraray Specialities Europe GmbH into Kuraray Europe GmbH
2007 Acquisition of amaretta GmbH in Asslar; integration into Kuraray Europe GmbH and relocation to Frankfurt
2008 Start-up of the 7th production plant for TROSIFOL in Troisdorf
Establishment of Kuraray Nordic Ab Oy in Finland
Establishment of Kuraray Dental Italia S.r.l
Integration of Acacia Dental into Kuraray Dental Benelux B.V. in the Netherlands
Acquisition of the PVB business activities of Wacker Polymer Systems GmbH & Co. KG in Munich
2009 Dr. Matthias Gutweiler becomes Managing Director of Kuraray Europe GmbH
Start-up of the 6th production line for PVB in Frankfurt
2011 Decision to invest EUR 58 million in the expansion of PVA production in Frankfurt
Start of construction of the 6th production line for PVA in Frankfurt
2012 Establishment of Kuraray Europe France S.A.R.L.
Kuraray Noritake Dental Inc. is launched through the integration of Kuraray Medical Inc., Noritake Dental Supply Co., Limited and Kuraray Noritake Dental Holdings Inc.
2014 Acquisition of the Glass Laminating Solutions/Vinyls businesses from DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers
2018 Acquisition of Calgon Carbon Corporation with the European operations of Chemviron S.A.
2019 Dr. Matthias Gutweiler becomes a member of the Board of Directors of Kuraray Co., Ltd. in Tokyo
2024 Establishment of Kuraray Europe Spain S.L.
