Polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) plays a key role in the production of PVC. During polymerization, this polymer acts as a protective colloid, which significantly improves the properties of PVC. L grades of KURARAY POVAL™ polyvinyl alcohol – PVOH polymers with low hydrolysis and very good solubility in water – are marketed by Kuraray, a world-leading producer of PVOH. Use this unique PVA to enhance the quality and efficiency of your PVC production.
KURARAY POVAL™ L grades are polyvinyl alcohols with a very low degree of hydrolysis, so they dissolve completely in water. KURARAY POVAL™ L grades are therefore excellent primary suspending agents in vinyl chloride suspension polymerization. These PVOH products regulate grain formation during production, resulting in improved PVC properties such as more uniform structure, morphology and particle size distribution.
Another advantage of KURARAY POVAL™ L grades is their particularly low viscosity. With 70-80 mol% hydrolysis, the viscosity of these Kuraray polymers ranges from 5 mPas to 8 mPas (measured in a 4% aqueous solution). These PVOH polymers are easy to remove, which helps reduce production waste and makes production processes more efficient. For use as a secondary dispersing agent, Kuraray offers PVC producers KURARAY POVAL™ LM grades.
