K 2025: Sustainable materials and solutions for the automotive industry

Hattersheim/Frankfurt am Main, 18 June 2025. Kuraray, the global speciality chemicals company headquartered in Japan, markets innovative and sustainable high-performance materials for demanding applications in the automotive industry. Kuraray therefore helps OEMs and suppliers actively shape the transition to emissions-free mobility, circularity and regulatory compliance. GENESTAR™ is suitable for wear-proof bearings, lightweight drivetrain components and heat management in electric vehicles. KURARAY LIQUID RUBBER improves the rolling resistance of tyres and also reduces production time and costs, while MOWITAL® enables heat separable (reversible) lamination of composite structures. PMMA-based products such as PARAPET™ and KURALPHA™ offer solutions for recyclable rear lights, heat-resistant head-up displays and recycling of coated automotive parts as well as parts covered with decorative film. EVAL™ EVOH, by contrast, is used as a barrier layer in hydrogen tank systems. Kuraray is presenting these and other innovations at K 2025 in Düsseldorf Germany (October 8-15, 2025, Hall 7a, Booth D06), where visitors can experience the automotive solutions at first hand.

A sector in transition – Kuraray provides answers
The automotive sector is facing fundamental changes – from the ELV directive and the ban on PFAS to rising pressure to be more sustainable. Kuraray provides the right materials, featuring high-performance, regulatory compliance and resource efficiency. As a development partner, Kuraray uses its long-standing expertise and technological depth to support its customers in the transition to a more sustainable future.

Materials with a sustainability certificate
The introduction of ISCC PLUS-certified grades in key product groups enables Kuraray to replace fossil resources in the production process without compromising on quality and functionality. Certified products include: SEPTON™, HYBRAR™, KURARAY LIQUID RUBBER, EVAL™ EVOH, KURARAY POVAL™, ELVANOL™, EXCEVAL™, the PMMA resin PARAPET™ and MOWITAL®. These products retain their technical advantages while facilitating a direct step towards climate neutrality.

Co-creation: innovations are generated in dialogue with the sector
Kuraray does not see itself simply as a supplier: it is also a development partner for OEMs and their suppliers. Through close collaboration, the quality, sustainability and functionality of its solutions can be configured and adapted flexibly to meet individual specifications. Kuraray works intensively with customers on the development of customized products – for example, for new adhesive technologies, PFAS-free bearings and UV-resistant exterior components with high transparency. At K 2025, Kuraray is presenting practical solutions that reflect the latest legislative, technical and sustainability requirements.

New products for automotive engineering
The product highlights that Kuraray is presenting at K 2025 address key requirements in the automotive sector:

  • GENESTAR™
The new PFAS-free GENESTAR™ grades are wear-resistant, low friction and ideal for bearings, gears and sliding systems. Thanks to its electrical conductivity and hydrophobic structure, GC 1201A is suitable for heat management of immersion-cooled batteries. N1005A features low weight and high resistance to hydrolysis – ideal for humid conditions and installation zones exposed to high thermal loads.
  • KURARAY LIQUID RUBBER
The new GS-L BR grade has low viscosity and improves the dispersion of fillers in rubber compounds. That reduces the rolling resistance of tyres and increases the range and efficiency of vehicles. As an ISCC PLUS-certified reactive plasticizer, it demonstrably contributes to sustainability in the supply chain.
  • MOWITAL®
Completely transparent PVB films can be processed under pressure at temperatures of 160 °C or less, have high bonding power and can be thermally separated, enabling optimum recycling. MOWITAL® film is ideal for laminating glass, metal, wood, ceramics, polymer fibres, polyurethane foam and many other substrates. One new feature is the availability of grades with ISCC PLUS certification, which confirms the use of bio-based and circular raw materials and their traceability using the mass balance approach.
  • PARAPET™ and KURALPHA™
PARAPET™ enables the recycling of rear lamps by completely replacing ASA/ABS by PARAPET™ or special PARAPET™ impact modifiers. In addition, the new PMMA development KURALPHA™ offers heat-resistant solutions with excellent optical resistance for head-up displays, LED lenses and exterior parts – as an alternative to polycarbonate.
  • EVAL™ EVOH
Using EVAL™ as a barrier layer in multi-layer hydrogen tanks effectively prevents hydrogen permeation. That makes this technology particularly interesting for emission-free drives. It also increases storage capacity, which enhances range and system efficiency.
