Prenol (3-methyl-2-butene-1-ol) is one of the simplest terpenoids. It is a clear, colourless oil that is reasonably soluble in water and miscible with most common organic solvents. It is a key intermediate for the production of a wide range of artificial aroma chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Prenol has a fruity odour and occurs naturally in citrus fruits, cranberries, bilberries, currants, grapes, raspberries, blackberries, tomatoes, white bread, hop oil, coffee, arctic brambles, cloudberries and passion fruit.
