On April, 21st,the Japanese specialty chemical company Kuraray celebrated the opening of its new, $300 million, 81-acre, green-field KURARAY POVAL® plant in Pasadena, Texas.

New KURARAY POVAL® Plant Opened in Pasadena, Texas

 

The opening of this plant further distinguishes Kuraray as the largest producer of polyvinyl alcohol in the world. The new KURARAY POVAL® plant will produce 40,000 metric tons of polyvinyl alcohol annually for local as well as global customers.

Together with the US-based ELVANOL® plant which was acquired in 2014, this plant will become part of an optimized PVA resin production system which will ensure the stable supply of high-quality products around the globe. Additionally, the plant will play a key role in Kuraray’s unswerving commitment to developing markets in North America and Central and South America.


KURARAY POVAL (Mowiol®) and KURARAY POVAL® are the brand names for Kuraray’s polyvinyl alcohols (PVOH). The physical and chemical properties of KURARAY POVAL® make it ideal for a wide variety of applications, including adhesives, paper, ceramics and films.
